The Entrepreneurial Journey

4. What’s the origin story of your business? What inspired you to start it, or what problem did you see that needed solving?
I have been a barista and bartender for over 10 years, and I have always had the dream of opening my own coffee shop. I even had a list of drinks and ideas in my phone for years. One morning I woke up while I was on vacation and I was dreading going back to work. I opened that list in my phone and decided I no longer wanted to work for somebody else. Three weeks later I launched my company.

5. What are you most proud of in your entrepreneurial journey so far?
So many things! I think the biggest thing is that I help other people who are wanting to start their own mobile beverage business. I have so many people all over the world that have started their entrepreneurial journey because of me.

6. What has surprised you most about being an entrepreneur?
How rewarding and lonely it can be at the same time. I am at the point in my life where I am the proudest that I have ever been of myself, but I am also the loneliest. It’s hard to share this life with friends and family. I work an insane number of hours each week and I don’t have much time for anything else. It’s also hard for others to understand why I have so much work—most of them think I just make coffees at an event for a few hours and then I’m done with my day.

7. What has been the most challenging part of running your business—and what has it taught you?
I am really good at making coffee and cocktails, but I have never run a business. Everything that comes along with running a business well has been very challenging to navigate. I wear 25 different hats each day, and it’s been very challenging to keep up with. You cannot run a business alone!

State Forty Eight Foundation & What’s Next

8. What have you gained—or what do you hope to gain—from being part of the State Forty Eight Foundation community?
I am very excited to be connected with like-minded entrepreneurs! Unless you’ve started a business before, you truly don’t understand what it takes. So being around other people who are doing what I am doing will be very refreshing.

9. How are the grant funds supporting your business?
My business has absolutely taken off since winning the grant. I was at a point in my business where I couldn’t quite make the jump to the next step. I was able to scale my business in big ways. I purchased a commercial espresso machine, I built a second cart, and I was able to hire a full-time employee! I am booking gigs right now that I never dreamed of.

10. Where do you hope to take your business next?
I would love to continue to grow my company with more carts. I would have 100 carts if I could! I want Cruizin For A Brewzin to be a name that everyone thinks of when they’re planning any type of event. And I would love to expand into other states as well.

11. What does it mean to you to be an Arizona business owner?
Whenever anyone asks me, “What is the most important thing to being a successful business owner?” I always tell them, “Giving back to the community.” Giving back to individuals who need it. My partnership with Arizona Friends of Foster Children Foundation has been the greatest part of being an Arizona business owner. I am so proud to be an Arizona business owner!
